Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Review

Albus Dumbledore left Harry Potter with the seemingly impossible task of finding and destroying Voldemort’s five remaining Horcruxes. So, Harry sets out with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger to hunt down the Horcruxes.

The Harry Potter series has some of the best novel characters, and the same is of course true for this book. Harry is one of the best protagonists of all time. Ron and Hermione are the loyal best friends that Harry desperately needs. But it is not just the trio who are extremely fleshed-out, extremely believable, and realistic characters. Voldemort is the perfect villain. Other characters have surprising but welcome times to shine.

The plot for all the books is excellent. But it is perhaps best in this book. It is so intense because of the conflict: find and destroy the Horcruxes. This task is impossible. Harry and his friends have five objects to find. Harry and his friends do not know what these objects are or where to find them. These objects could be anything in the world and they could be anywhere in the world. Everyone likes underdogs, and this book certainly has that element. Everything revolving the plot was very well thought out and is explained.

J. K. Rowling said that the theme of Harry Potter is death. The theme of death is shown in this book perhaps more than the rest in the series. Much of this book revolves around Dumbledore’s death, and that is just scratching the surface on the theme of death in this book.

Harry Potter has one of the best settings/universes. Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Gringotts, and the Burrow are just a few of the iconic, magical locations in Harry Potter. This is the final book in the series, yet Rowling manages to effectively add new, immersive locations. The atmosphere is dark yet also filled with wonder. Although Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is full of magic, the setting feels real; if magic was as real as it is in this book, this is a believable possibility of what the world would look like.

One struggles to put this book down. Once one starts reading it, time flies by. Once one starts reading just a paragraph, several pages go by in that one sitting. After spending six books with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the others, readers are ready to finally read how their magic school journey comes to a close. However, as with some of the other Harry Potter books, there are some slow moments.

The book’s flow and pacing is masterful. Rowling managed to put in some light-hearted humor even though her novel’s tone is grim. The dialogue especially shines.

The epic finale of Harry Potter lives up to the hype, leaving readers satisfied. This is one of the best book series of all time, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the best of the series. So, this is easily one of the best books of all time.
